Checking in with Reality: July 2010

Photo from: We Heart it

Dearest Devotees,

I took a break from these posts because I realized I had a couple of long term projects to work on for awhile and that weekly updates would be pointless until important steps have been accomplished. Now the middle of this year has come and gone I feel like I've gotten to a point where I can give a pretty good update on how my resolutions are going.

Since the last time I posted I have:

Finished my first official voice class. I learnt much more than I expected to learn and I feel like it has given me some skills that will help me in other parts of my life.

Finished my first costume design and production (sewing) classes. They were amazing. I learnt so much from both of them and begun work on my portfolio in earnest. I also now have a sample binder and created my first smock. I am currently figuring out how to embellish it.

have started understanding Economics again which is awesome since it's my actual Major.

bought my first sewing machine :) and memo board.

finished my first hip hop class. It was LA style hip hop. I loved it and am currently looking for another one.

have found the Karaoke bar I will perform at for my two public performances.

gone canoeing. It was epic.

found a room organisational system that works for me and have kept it for 7 weeks and counting!

Found some really amazing people who make everyday a blessing.

Things I'm currently in the process of doing and will continue to work on for the next couple of weeks/months:

Finding a good routine and scheduling system, that will let me have time for everything that's important.

Getting back into some sort of regularity with blogging. It's been difficult because I've been in summer school and 4 months of work is covered in 6 weeks. Honestly, I need to find a way to cut down on school work load.

Figuring out my business plan for my future fashion company.

Learning to use garageband to practice my musical production skills.

Teaching myself music theory.

Learning the most random but highly entertaining stuff from books in the library and my anthropology class.

Taking my first ballroom dance class.

Trying to find volunteering/interning/job opportunities and networking opportunities that could help me learn more about the creative industry.

Working on my faith.

Finding a mentor.

Practicing my music and my french.

Well, that's all for now my dearest devotees. I hope you are all well.

Love you all and Stay inspired,

P.S. So let me know what you think. Have you been working on your goals for the year. How far do you think you've come? Feel free to let me know in the comments below.

P.P.S. If you haven't already you can still enter for the giveaways. The surprise one is open to all my devotees irrespective of location. I have also extended the entry period until this saturday.

Dearest Devotees,

I'm really happy with how February went. I met loads of lovely new people in all of my classes, some of which I practice and study outside of class with. My zeal for my faith has grown infinitely, and I overcame a huge block in my musical abilities through not giving up on my intermediate piano classes and instead spending 5 hours(!) a day for a week practicing my pieces for my midterm. All the goals that I decided to meet in February have been met and now it's time to work on those for March.

For this month I want to:

  • Record all my songs A capella style on garageband.
  • Choose the 10 songs I want on my demo.
  • Fill them out as need be.
  • Work on finding the chords for at least 2 of them.
  • Write down music video ideas.
  • Practice my french at least 3 nights every week on my computer.
  • Continue with my regular blogging.
For this week I want to:
  • I will record 3 songs on GarageBand.
  • Practice my French nightly.
  • Continue with my regular blogging.
  • Finish my school work.
  • Read books, blogs and magazines.

This is mostly my music month and I am really excited for it. I am not too sure what I will be my career, I mostly alternate between music, fashion design and costuming, and writing, so I am trying to work on all of them, roughly equally. Anyway, I hope this music month thing works out.

Love you all and Stay inspired,

P.S. So let me know what you think. What do you have planned for the month? How are your goals for the year working out? Are any of you interested in music with regards to songwriting, singing, instrument performance? Feel free to let me know in the comments below.

Dearest Devotees,

Since the last time I posted on this topic (two weeks ago. I know I'm sorry) I have accomplished this:

  • Redesigned and renovated my blog, complete with new header and tons and tons of new ideas I can't wait to share with you.

  • Met and made friends with loads of lovely people in my classes and on my Catholic Centre retreat.

  • Found some scholarships to apply for, and begun to work on them.

  • Moved to whole new plane and level in my spiritual life, courtesy of fab CC retreat.

  • Come up with a new song and started recording on my new Mac!!!!

  • Formed study groups with aforementioned lovely people.

I have modified this:

  • I realised that I want to partake in NaNoWriMO with other people and since I only have one novel I want to get done this year, I'll do it then.

  • I need to spend more time on practicing piano skills and will therefore up practice time by an hour for awhile.

I have learnt this:

  • I need to make an all encompassing schedule-calendar that shows me all major projects, and minor ones and when they need to be done.

I will do this next week:

  • I will get up some of my new post ideas. I really hope you like them :)
  • I will get all of my files moved from my old laptop to my new mac.
  • I will study hard for all my exams and do all my major projects . If my costume design renderings turn out well I'll share them with you all.
  • I'll practice singing and playing my songs.

How have your aspirations been coming along?

Love you all and Stay inspired,

P.S. So let me know what you think. By the way, thank you for all of your constructive criticisms and beautifully encouraging comments. You help become better and give me such amazing support. I am so glad to have such amazing devotees and I promise to continue to give you my best efforts.

Darling Devotees,

Its February now and the further we get away from January 1st the harder it is to keep to the resolutions we made at the beginning of the year. I find that when breaking down major goals into smaller ones that fit into specific time frames makes them more realistic and easier to accomplish. I've also found that telling people about your goals makes you more determined to accomplish them because these people, directly or indirect, hold you accountable. That's why I want to use this segment to break up my new year's resolutions into manageable smaller goals and hopefully by the end of the year everything will be achieved. I invite you to join me by commenting about your goals at the end of the post. I shall do this segment every week and try to let you know how the week went in the following week's post. I hope that we can achieve all we've set out to do together. :)

So over the next month I will:

♥ Write an approximately 50,000 word novel.

♥ Do something new and exciting on my blog (wait for it darlings).

♥ Become good friends with some people in my classes.

♥ Find scholarships and apply for them. I need them for next year.

♥ Improve in my spiritual life.

♥ Work on my music. That demo won't record itself. Good news: My voice and piano teachers have promised to help me!!! I'm going to record one in particular for my voice class.

Over the next week I will:

♥Write at least 2 chapters of my book.

♥Start the surprise on my blog.

♥Post out my acceptance letter to the National Society for College Scholars (I got the letter yesterday!!!). Scholarships and discounts here I come!!!

♥Go for Catholic Center Retreat, and deeply reconnect with my faith.

♥Practice my singing and piano playing everyday for at least an hour.

♥Form study groups with lovely people in my classes.

I'm taking the big leap into the unknown. Will you take it with me?

Love you all and Stay inspired,

P.S. So let me know what you think. What are your new year's resolutions, goals or aims? Have you begun work on them? What will you do this week and month? Feel free to let me know in the comments below.
